the Batey Rehab Project
During the spring break of my Junior year I spent a week in the Dominican Republic with the Batey Rehab Project helping on the construction of a new home for a 14 year old girl and her family. There are a lot of things to mention about this trip from mixing cement and pouring the foundation to demolition of the original structure. However, the most important contribution I made to the home were the doors and windows.
Under the guidance of furniture design student Maura Costello we built seven windows, three for a previous home and four for the house under construction, and a beautiful, sturdy front door. We did this without the use of power tools or internet tutorials.
